June 16 to 21, 2004 in Kazan under the auspices of the UNESCO was held the International Conference of the World Heritage cities of Euro-Asia
Greetings addressed to the International Conference were received from President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin; Director General of the UNESCO Koichiro Matsuura; Secretary General of the World Organization "United Cities and Local Authorities" Elizabeth Gateau and others.
During the Conference were carried out 2 plenary meetings, 3 sessions and 5 seminars. Of the particular interest was the special seminar on the Kazan Kremlin, a World Heritage monument.
In the course of the Conference was held the Forum "Cultural Heritage of Islamic cities". Speakers presented reports on various problems of study and preservation of the Islamic Cultural Heritage.
Participants of the Conference were presented a variable cultural program:
Euro-Asian Regional Secretariat started to collect the materials for the book "World Heritage cities of Euro-Asia", the decision on the edition was unanimously accepted on the Conference.
This book will be the first edition covering information about all cities of Euro-Asia having on its territory objects of World Heritage. The similar projects never ever before realized it our region. The edition will be held under the aegis of UNESCO.
The big format, high quality of graphic arts industry, sufficient quantity of the illustrative material, detailed information about cities and World Heritage Sites, schematic maps and plans undoubtedly will give to the edition the prestigious kind. This colorful presentation album can be entrusted as gifts in the official representation meetings. The book will play the important role in increase of interest to WHCities, will serve to attraction of the additional flow of the tourists, that undoubtedly will affect flow of the additional means and raising of the prestige level of the WHCities.
To each city World Heritage cities of the Euro-Asia and that takes part in realization of the project will be devoted no less than 2 complete pages of the book. The edition will be published in English. There will be a Russian version of the book for Russia and CIS countries.
